Biography
Elizabeth A. Pomfret, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.S. is an internationally recognized multiorgan transplant surgeon and academic leader, currently serving as Professor of Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. She previously held the Igal Kam, MD Endowed Chair, and served as Chief of Transplant Surgery and Executive Director of the Colorado Center for Transplantation Care, Research, and Education (CCTCARE). Dr. Pomfret’s career is distinguished by her leadership in liver transplantation, especially living donor liver transplantation, mentorship, and significant contributions to the surgical community. She has served as President of both the International Liver Transplantation Society (ILTS) and the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) and has held various leadership positions within national and international transplant and surgical organizations.
Dr. Pomfret has contributed to organizational and governmental boards, including the Organ Procurement Transplantation Network/United Network for Organ Sharing (OPTN/UNOS) Board of Directors, Colorado Donor Alliance Board of Directors, CU Medicine Executive Board, ASTS Executive Committee, ASTS Council, ASTS Chair, National Transplant Curriculum Committee. She was an Executive Editor of the journal Transplantation and currently serves on their Editor’s Advisory Council.
Dr. Pomfret is an active researcher with more than 200 publications, she has won numerous mentorship awards and has been invited to lecture worldwide on current issues in the field of transplantation.
